I Grow…
Because it’s makes me so happy to dig in the dirt; to see a small seedling poke its head up and flourish. The joy of watching Baptisia buds which look like asparagus growing at first, then they surprise me with such a bounty of blue flowers that morph after the season into dry pods and in winter I still have an interesting dry arrangement in the barren landscape. How can I not celebrate the colors, textures, and new discoveries nature gives me? It’s a never ending process of hard work and optimal satisfaction. I must celebrate nature’s gifts, so I grow more!

Personal Connection
My parents were always digging in their garden When I was a child. Flowers, then strawberries and tomatoes and corn. Summers were always filled with surprises from the garden. I discovered Gilbertie’s 25 years ago. It’s a gem.

The ‘Grow’ Experience
Gardening is meditation for me. Entering my garden is like entering a private chapel. I find peace and solace there.

Favorite Finds
Baptisia; Lenten Rose; Barrenwort.
Red dogwood trees and Red Bud tree.

Garden Tips
Barrenwort looks feeble when first planted! Give it a year or two to establish itself. I like to plant in groups of three. Once it starts to spread it’s a fabulous edging plant.
